WHO CAUSES IT?
Papaya ringspot virus (PRSV) is a pathogen belonging to the genus Potyvirus, which infects various cucurbits, including pumpkin. This virus is transmitted primarily by aphids in a non-persistent process, meaning that aphids can acquire and transmit the virus within a short period of time after feeding on an infected plant. PRSV replicates within host cells, using the plant's cellular machinery to produce new viral particles. These particles accumulate in the cytoplasm and are transported through the phloem, disseminating throughout the plant. Symptoms of infection may take days or weeks to appear, depending on environmental factors and the resistance of the plant.
