COMPOST DE HOJAS VERDES FRESCAS
Fresh green leaf compost: a natural source of magnesium for plants
How does it work?
How is it prepared?
It can be used in two ways: as accelerated compost or as direct addition to the substrate.
Materials:
• 200–300 g of fresh green leaves (cut grass, tender leaves, young plants)
• Compost bin or garden bag
• 1 liter of water (for the optional liquid version)
Option 1: Fast Compost with Green Leaves
Steps:
1. Lightly shred the green leaves to accelerate decomposition.
2. Place them in a compost bin or garden bag.
3. Mix with a little soil or mature compost to activate the microorganisms.
4. Keep the mixture moist but not waterlogged.
5. Stir every 2–3 days.
6. In 2–4 weeks, you will obtain young compost rich in magnesium.
Option 2: Nourishing Green Leaf Infusion (Liquid Version)
Steps:
1. Place 200 g of chopped green leaves in 1 liter of water.
2. Let it steep for 24–48 hours.
3. Strain the mixture.
4. Use the liquid as a mild fertilizer.
How to apply it?
Finished Compost:
• Apply a thin layer around the plant (1–2 cm).
• Mix lightly with the topsoil.
• Repeat every 3–4 weeks.
Liquid Version:
• Water with the infusion every 10–15 days.
• Ideal for plants with chlorosis due to magnesium deficiency.
• Avoid using excessive green leaves directly on the surface (they may ferment).
• Do not apply near the stem to avoid excessive moisture.
• In moderate or severe deficiencies, supplement with magnesium sulfate (Epsom).
