DESCRIPTION

Pathogen description

The whitefly is a small insect belonging to the Aleyrodidae family, which includes various species that can affect a wide variety of crops, including citrus. These insects are white in color and have a powdery appearance due to the waxy particles on their body and wings. They feed on plant sap and secrete honeydew, a sticky substance that can attract the appearance of fungi such as black mold. The whitefly is a difficult pest to control due to its rapid reproduction and its ability to fly and disperse.

Disease description

Whiteflies can cause significant damage to citrus by feeding on leaf sap, causing yellowing, weakening of the plant, and reduced fruit production. In addition, the honeydew secreted by these insects can promote the growth of fungi such as black mold, which stain the leaves and reduce the photosynthetic capacity of the plant.

• Yellowing of the leaves.
• Loss of vigor and general weakening of the plant.
• Reduction in fruit production.
• Presence of sticky honeydew on the leaves.
• Appearance of sooty fungus.
