Thrips
Pathogen:
Insect
Type:
Risk:
MILD

DESCRIPTION
Pathogen description
Thrips are tiny insects belonging to the order Thysanoptera, which can cause serious damage to a wide range of agricultural crops and ornamental plants. These insects feed on plant tissues, piercing the surface of leaves, shoots and fruits to extract the nutrients necessary for their development. In addition to feeding, thrips can transmit viruses and other pathogens, further exacerbating their impact on crops.
Disease description
On grapevines, thrips can cause significant damage to both leaves and grape clusters. Symptoms include the presence of silver or tan Taches on the leaves, caused by thrips feeding and deposition of their excrement. In the bunches, the presence of thrips can cause the formation of lesions on the skin of the grapes, which affects their quality and marketing.

TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY
20°C - 30°C
70% - 90%

VOIES DE TRANSMISSION
Active movement of insects, passive transport by wind, transport by agricultural equipment and machinery.

To prevent and control the presence of thrips in grapevine crops, it is recommended to implement an integrated approach that includes cultural, physical and chemical measures. This may include removing weeds and crop debris that may serve as shelter for thrips, installing traps to monitor their presence, using specific insecticides when necessary, and introducing natural enemies, such as parasitoid wasps, which help control their population.
