DESCRIPTION
WHO CAUSES IT?
Bacterial spot is a disease caused by the bacteria Xanthomonas vesicatoria, which mainly affects tomato and pepper crops. This bacteria is known to cause foliar lesions, necrotic Taches and defoliation in affected plants. Although it can also affect other crops of the nightshade family, such as eggplant and chili, its impact is more significant on tomatoes due to its economic importance and its widespread cultivation throughout the world.
SYMPTOMS
In tomato, bacterial spot manifests as necrotic lesions on the leaves, which usually begin as small olive green or pale yellow Taches. Over time, these Taches expand and turn dark brown to black, surrounded by a yellow or light green halo. In addition to the leaves, the disease can also affect the fruits, causing necrotic lesions on the surface and affecting their quality and yield.
