ALCOHOL TRAPS
TRAMPAS DE ALCOHOL

How does it work?
Alcohol traps are an effective method of attracting and eliminating boring insects such as borers, borers, and other flying beetles. They work by releasing alcohol vapors that act as an attractant. The insects, guided by the smell, enter through a side window cut into the container and fall to the bottom, where a mixture of alcohol or soapy water drowns them. This system makes it possible to reduce the population of adult pests and monitor their activity.
How is it prepared?
To prepare the trap you need:
- 1 bottle or plastic container with lid
- Cutter or scissors
- Water (500 ml) or liquid hand sanitizer (at least 65% ethanol)
- Neutral soap (1 teaspoon, if using water)
Recipe:
1. Cut a side window in the container, about 10 cm from the bottom, large enough to allow the beetles to enter.
2. Fill the bottom of the container with 500 ml of water and add 1 teaspoon of neutral soap. Alternatively, liquid hand sanitizer can be used directly.
3. Close the container lid.
4. Make sure the trap is ready to hang or set.
How to place it?
- Hang the trap from a branch or tie it to a stake near the affected crop.
- Install in the afternoon, especially when temperatures exceed 21°C (70°F), which is when beetles are most active.
- Check the trap the next day and empty the contents if there are many insects trapped.
- Renew the liquid every 3 to 5 days or when it evaporates.
- Use several strategically distributed traps if the area is large or the infestation is high.
