How does it work?
Light traps are devices that attract nocturnal insects using a light source, usually LED or UV. Insects, such as bed bugs, moths and Tuta ABSOLUTA, are attracted to light and become trapped on a sticky surface or killed by electric mesh. This technique allows the population of adult insects to be significantly reduced, interrupting their reproductive cycle.
How is it prepared?
Light traps can be purchased ready-made, but they can also be made at home. For a simple version, you need:
- 1 low consumption LED or UV lamp
- 1 plastic container with water
- 2 tablespoons of liquid soap
- 1 sheet of sticky paper or adhesive tape (optional)
Place the lamp on top of the bowl of soapy water or next to a sticky surface where insects can get trapped.
How to place it?
- Place the trap in dark areas and near the affected plants.
- Turn it on at night and turn it off at dawn.
- Check and clean the container or change the adhesive tape every 2-3 days.
- Use daily during periods of greatest insect presence.
- Avoid other light sources nearby to improve attraction.
