DESCRIPTION
WHO CAUSES IT?
The pathogen known as anthracnose (Colletotrichum acutatum) is a fungus that affects a wide variety of plants, including strawberries. It is characterized by being an ascomycete fungus that can survive in plant residues and under stress conditions. This fungus is capable of generating spores that spread easily through wind, water and biotic vectors, which contributes to its rapid spread in plantations.
SYMPTOMS
The disease it produces in strawberries, known as anthracnose, manifests itself mainly in the fruits. Symptoms include the formation of dark circular Taches on the surface of the strawberry, which can grow and coalesce, causing the fruit to decay. Additionally, these lesions may be surrounded by a light-colored halo and exude a gelatinous substance under conditions of high humidity.
