DESCRIPTION
WHO CAUSES IT?
Leafminers are insects that belong to several species of flies, moths and beetles whose larvae feed on plant tissue, creating characteristic tunnels or galleries in the leaves, stems or fruits of plants. These galleries can weaken the structure of the plant, reduce its photosynthetic capacity and make it more vulnerable to other diseases. Leafminers are a common problem in ornamental and garden plants, as they can affect a wide variety of plant species.
SYMPTOMS
The disease caused by leafminers in ornamental and garden plants manifests itself with the presence of tunnels or galleries in the leaves, stems or fruits of infected plants. These tunnels are usually linear or meandering and can vary in size and shape depending on the leafminer species and host plant. In addition to tunneling, symptoms include wilting of leaves, discoloration and deformation of plant tissues, and in severe cases, premature defoliation of the plant.
