DILUTED MILK
LECHE DILUIDA
How does it work?
Diluted milk is a home remedy widely used in organic farming to combat fungal diseases such as powdery mildew and ash. Its effectiveness is due to the proteins and enzymes present in milk, which when exposed to the sun release antimicrobial compounds and strengthen the surface of the leaves, creating an unfavorable environment for fungi. In addition, it can act as a foliar fertilizer, providing calcium and other nutrients.
How is it prepared?
Preparing diluted milk is very simple and requires only two basic ingredients. The standard recipe is:
- 1 part milk (whole or skimmed, preferably not ultra-pasteurized)
- 9 parts water
Preparation:
1. Mix 1 liter of milk with 9 liters of water in a clean container.
2. Stir the mixture well before using it.
3. You can prepare it in a smaller quantity, always respecting the 1:9 proportion.
It is not necessary to let it sit: it can be used immediately after mixing.
How to apply it?
The diluted milk is applied with a sprayer directly to the leaves.
- Method of application: Spray the affected leaves and nearby areas until they are well covered (without dripping).
- Frequency: Apply every 3 to 5 days while powdery mildew persists. As prevention, a weekly application is sufficient.
- Tips:
- Apply in the morning or in the evening to avoid sunburn.
- Do not apply on rainy days so that the treatment does not wash off.
- Do not use in excess on plants sensitive to excess moisture in leaves.
It is a gentle treatment, ideal for urban gardens, balconies or family gardens.
