Fungicida
Description
A systemic fungicide belonging to the phenylamide group, used for the preventive and early curative control of diseases caused by oomycetes such as Phytophthora spp., Pythium spp., Plasmopara spp., Peronospora spp., and Bremia spp. Benalaxyl-M is the R-enantiomer of benalaxyl, responsible for most of the molecule's biological activity. It acts by inhibiting ribosomal RNA synthesis through interference with the activity of oomycetes' RNA polymerase I, blocking the production of proteins essential for the pathogen's growth and development. It exhibits high systemic activity, root and foliar absorption, and upward movement through the xylem. It has preventive and early curative action, particularly effective against downy mildews and soilborne diseases caused by oomycetes.
Application Conditions
It is applied by foliar spraying, soil application, fertigation, or seed treatment, depending on the crop and the target disease. It is most effective when used preventively or during the initial stages of infection. It should be alternated with fungicides that have a different mode of action due to the high risk of resistance development in oomycetes.
Compatibility in Treatment Programs
Compatible with anti-mycete fungicides from different FRAC groups, especially multi-site fungicides and integrated disease management programs
Cross-Resistance
There is significant cross-resistance with other FRAC group 4 phenylamides such as metalaxyl, metalaxyl-M, and benalaxyl.
Maximum Number of Applications
Maximum 1 consecutive application before alternating with another FRAC group, according to anti-resistance recommendations
Recommendations for Use
It is recommended to use in mixtures or alternating with fungicides of different modes of action to reduce selection pressure and delay the appearance of resistance.
Compatibility with Beneficial Organisms
Generally yes, when used according to authorized recommendations
Technical Notes
Benalaxyl-M offers high efficacy against numerous oomycetes thanks to its excellent systemic mobility and early curative activity. However, phenylamides have one of the most significant resistance histories among agricultural fungicides, with numerous resistant populations of Phytophthora, Plasmopara, and other oomycetes documented. For this reason, FRAC recommends limiting its use, avoiding repeated applications, and combining it with fungicides with different mechanisms of action within resistance management programs.
