ACTIVITY

Preventive

Description

A contact fungicide belonging to the phenylpyrrole group, primarily used to control soilborne diseases and seed-borne pathogens such as Fusarium spp. and Rhizoctonia spp. It acts by interfering with the fungus's osmotic regulation mechanisms, disrupting cellular transport and causing metabolic imbalances that lead to the inhibition of mycelial growth and spore germination. It exhibits mainly preventative activity and high persistence on the treated surface. Its action is especially effective in seed treatments, where it protects early crop development against early infections and damping-off. It shares similar mechanisms of action with other phenylpyrroles such as fludioxonil.

Application Conditions

It is primarily used as a seed treatment before sowing, ensuring even distribution of the product on the seed. It can be combined with other authorized fungicide treatments and should be used within resistance management programs by alternating modes of action.

Compatibility in Treatment Programs

Compatible with numerous seed treatments and fungicides with different modes of action

Cross-Resistance

Yes, possible cross-resistance with other phenylpyrroles in group 12

Maximum Number of Applications

Generally limited to the initial treatment of seeds

Recommendations for Use

It is recommended to combine or alternate with fungicides of different FRAC values to reduce selection pressure.

Compatibility with Beneficial Organisms

Generally yes, due to its localized application mainly on seeds

Technical Notes

Fenpiclonil is notable for its effectiveness against emerging diseases and soil fungi. Although the risk of resistance is lower than in other specific groups, it is recommended to avoid its exclusive, repeated use and to maintain integrated pest management and resistance-fighting strategies.
