MATURE COMPOST
COMPOST MADURO
How does it work?
Mature compost is a fully decomposed organic fertilizer that improves soil structure and strengthens plant health. Its use against nematodes, fusariosis and root and stem rot is due to the fact that it provides beneficial microorganisms that compete with pathogens and improve the soil microbiota. In addition, it increases the water and nutrient retention capacity, strengthening the natural defenses of plants.
How is it prepared?
Mature compost is made from completely decomposed organic waste.
Basic recipe:
- 50% plant remains (dry leaves, peels, crushed prunings)
- 30% kitchen scraps (fruits, vegetables, egg shells)
- 20% manure (optional, to enrich)
- Water (to maintain humidity like a wrung sponge)
Steps:
1. Mix all ingredients in a composter or aerated pile.
2. Turn once a week to oxygenate.
3. Maintain constant humidity.
4. The compost will be ready in 3 to 6 months when it has a dark color, an earthy smell, and a homogeneous texture.
How to apply it?
- Mix the mature compost with the soil in a 1:1 ratio in the planting area.
- For already established plants, apply a layer of 2 to 5 cm around the stem without touching it directly.
- Apply at least once a month during the growing season.
- In serious cases of soil diseases, apply every 15 days.
- Do not use fresh compost, as it can promote pathogens instead of controlling them.
