HARINA DE HUESOS O CÁSCARAS DE PESCADO MOLIDAS
Bone meal or ground fish shells: homemade fertilizer rich in phosphorus
How does it work?
How is it prepared?
This fertilizer is obtained by thoroughly crushing and drying fish bones or shells.
Recipe:
• Cleaned chicken, beef, or fish bones, free of any fat, or
• Fish shells (bones, spines, etc.)
• Baking tray or frying pan
• Mortar, grinder, or food processor
Steps:
1. Wash the bones or shells and remove any remaining fat or meat.
2. Dry them in the sun for several days or toast them in the oven at a low temperature (120–150 °C) until they are hard and completely dry.
3. Once dry, crush them with a mortar or food processor until you obtain a fine powder.
4. Store in an airtight container, away from moisture.
How to apply it?
• Mix directly into the potting mix: 1 to 2 tablespoons per medium-sized pot.
• In cultivated soil, apply 30–50 g per plant and mix into the soil around the base.
• Repeat application every 2–3 months, as it is a slow-release fertilizer.
• Ideal for flowering plants, fruiting vegetables, fruit trees, and soils low in phosphorus.
• Avoid overuse to prevent nutrient imbalances in the soil.
