STEINERNEMA FELTIAE
Steinernema feltiae – Instructions for use and tips for the entomopathogenic nematode for the control of caterpillars and thrips
Application mode:
Application is via irrigation, spraying, or direct incorporation into the soil or substrate, ensuring that the treated area maintains adequate moisture for the nematode's mobility and survival. It can also be applied through fertigation systems, misting, or localized treatments in infested areas. Steinernema feltiae actively seeks out the larvae and pupae of pest insects, entering their bodies and releasing symbiotic bacteria that cause their death within 24 to 72 hours. It is especially effective in controlling soil pests and insects with hidden developmental stages, such as thrips, fungus gnats, and leafminers.
Application tips:
• Apply preferably during the cooler hours of the day or in low light conditions to prevent the nematode from drying out.
• Keep the soil or substrate consistently moist before and after application to promote its activity and movement.
• Avoid using it in conjunction with long-acting insecticides or fungicides that may affect its viability.
• Use chlorine-free water or let it stand for at least 24 hours before preparing the mixture.
• Filter the solution before application to prevent clogging of nozzles or irrigation systems.
• Apply preventively or at the beginning of an infestation to maximize control effectiveness.
• Repeat applications periodically or after adverse conditions (drought, extreme heat, or leaching from excessive irrigation) to maintain the active population.
Toxicity:
• For humans: Non-toxic. Steinernema feltiae poses no risk to human health. The use of gloves and protective eyewear is recommended during handling.
• For bees: Harmless. It does not affect bees or other pollinating insects.
• For beneficial insects: Safe for natural enemies such as predators, parasitoids, and beneficial soil organisms.
• For the environment: Biological, biodegradable product with no chemical residues. It does not pollute soil or water and contributes to the ecological balance and sustainability of agricultural ecosystems.
Read the manufacturer's instructions carefully, respect the doses and times and follow the recommendations for use.
