APHELINUS ABDOMINALIS
Aphelinus abdominalis – Instructions for use and practical tips for the parasitoid specialized in aphids
Application mode:
Releases of Aphelinus abdominalis are carried out by distributing the containers or cards containing pupae or adults evenly across the crop, preferably in areas where aphids have been detected. It is recommended to introduce them preventively or at the beginning of an infestation to allow the parasitoid to establish itself before populations become high.
Once released, the adults actively seek out aphids, parasitizing them and promoting natural pest control. Their effect is observed in the days following release, when the mummies typical of parasitized aphids begin to appear.
Application tips:
• Introduce Aphelinus abdominalis preventively or upon detecting the first signs of aphid infestation.
• Avoid using broad-spectrum insecticides, especially systemic ones, which can negatively impact their survival.
• Maintain an average temperature between 18 and 28 °C and moderate relative humidity to promote their activity.
• Repeat releases every 1 to 2 weeks depending on the infestation level and crop conditions.
• Compatible with other natural enemies, such as Aphidius colemani or Chrysoperla carnea, to improve combined aphid control.
• Encourage shelters and nearby flowering plants that provide nectar and pollen, increasing the lifespan of the adults.
Toxicity:
• For humans: No significant risks. Handle with care and keep containers closed until application.
• For bees: Non-toxic. Can coexist with bees and other pollinators without harming them.
• For beneficial insects: Compatible with most natural enemies used in biological control.
• For the environment: A natural and safe organism. Leaves no residue, does not contaminate water or soil, and helps reduce the use of chemicals in agriculture.
Read the manufacturer's instructions carefully, respect the doses and times and follow the recommendations for use.
