CENIZA DE MADERA
Wood ash: a home remedy to correct phosphorus, potassium, and calcium deficiencies
How does it work?
How is it prepared?
Using wood ash is simple, as long as it comes from untreated wood, free of varnishes, dyes, and scraps of paper or cardboard with ink.
Preparation:
• Collect the ash completely cool.
• Sift it through a fine sieve to remove large pieces or charcoal fragments.
• Store it in a dry, airtight container to prevent it from absorbing moisture.
If you want to apply it in liquid form, you can prepare ash water:
1. Add 2 tablespoons of ash per liter of water.
2. Mix well and let it sit for 24 hours.
3. Filter before using to avoid clogging the sprayer or watering can.
How to apply it?
• Direct application to the soil: sprinkle around the plant (1–2 tablespoons per plant) and mix lightly into the soil.
• Watering with ash water: apply once every 15 days during the growing season.
• To correct soil acidity: use 100–150 g per m², once or twice a year.
• Avoid excessive use, as it can raise the pH too much.
• Do not apply near acid-loving plants (hydrangeas, blueberries, azaleas).
• Do not mix with organic nitrogen fertilizers (such as fresh manure) to avoid unwanted reactions.
