COMPOST CON RESTOS DE CEBOLLA O AJO
Compost with onion or garlic scraps: homemade fertilizer to correct sulfur deficiency
How does it work?
How is it prepared?
The scraps can be added directly to the compost, but it's recommended to shred them to speed up decomposition.
Recipe:
• Onion scraps (peelings, tips, pieces)
• Garlic scraps (peelings or damaged cloves)
• Compost bin or compost heap
• Dry material (dry leaves, cardboard, straw)
Steps:
1. Gather onion and garlic peels and scraps.
2. Shred them lightly to speed up decomposition.
3. Add them to the compost along with dry material to balance moisture.
4. Mix well and keep the compost bin aerated.
5. Let it compost for several weeks until the material is homogeneous and no longer has a strong odor.
How to apply it?
• Mix the finished compost with the substrate: 1 part compost to 3 parts soil.
• For established plants, apply a 2–3 cm layer around the base and mix lightly into the soil.
• Repeat every 4–6 weeks during the growing season.
• Ideal for young plants, vegetables, fruit trees, and plants with yellowing leaves due to sulfur deficiency.
• Avoid applying fresh, undecomposed compost to prevent fermentation in the soil.
