DESCRIPTION
WHO CAUSES IT?
Apple stem grooving virus (ASGV) is a virus that affects apple trees and other pome fruit trees. The virus is primarily associated with apple stem grooving. ASGV is persistent in plants, and can be transmitted from generation to generation through grafts and infected seeds. It does not usually cause severe symptoms, but it can weaken plants over time.
SYMPTOMS
The disease caused by ASGV in apple trees is characterized by grooving of the stem and branches, which can cause weakening of the plant and a decrease in productivity. Symptoms may not appear immediately, but rather develop slowly over time.
• Longitudinal grooves in the stem and branches.
• Decrease in the quality of the fruits.
• General weakening of the plant.
• Regressive death of branches.
• Reduction in fruit production.
