DESCRIPTION
WHO CAUSES IT?
Aphelenchoides fragariae is a phytoparasitic nematode that affects strawberry plants, causing the disease known as strawberry stolon nematode. This microscopic pathogen is commonly found in soil and infected plant tissues, where it can persist for prolonged periods, awaiting favorable conditions for infection.
SYMPTOMS
In strawberry plants, the presence of Aphelenchoides fragariae can result in a series of harmful symptoms. Among the most common signs are wilting and deformation of leaves, as well as reduced stolon growth and fruit production. Additionally, infected plants often have a weakened overall appearance and may be more susceptible to other pathogens and environmental stressors.

To prevent and control the spread of strawberry runner nematode, it is essential to implement integrated pest and disease management practices. This includes crop rotation, selection of resistant varieties, weed control and improvement of soil structure to reduce nematode proliferation. Additionally, regular plant monitoring and timely application of nematicidal treatments can help limit the impact of Aphelenchoides fragariae on strawberry crops.
