DESCRIPTION
WHO CAUSES IT?
Lepidosaphes ulmi and Mytilococcus ulmi are phytopathogenic insects known as scale insects, which mainly affect apple trees and other fruit trees, causing the disease known as serpeta. These insects feed on the plant's sap, which can weaken it significantly. Females lay eggs under their shells, which develop into larvae and then become adults. Mealybugs are most active in the warm months and can have multiple generations per season.
SYMPTOMS
Serpeta in apple trees can cause general symptoms such as weakening of the plant, yellowing of the leaves, premature leaf fall, and a decrease in the quality and quantity of the harvest. The presence of mealybugs manifests itself as small brown or gray shells on branches and leaves.
