DESCRIPTION
WHO CAUSES IT?
The pathogen known as thrips is a tiny insect belonging to the order Thysanoptera. This tiny organism, just a few millimeters in length, is recognized for its ability to cause significant damage to a wide range of crops. Thrips feed on plant tissues, piercing the leaves and other parts of the plant to suck the juices, which can severely weaken the crop and reduce its yield.
SYMPTOMS
The apple tree is one of the crops vulnerable to thrips attacks. The presence of these insects can lead to the disease known as "thrips damage in apple trees." Symptoms of this disease include the appearance of silver or tan Taches on the leaves, as well as deformation of the shoots. In addition, thrips can also cause premature leaf drop and, in severe cases, the death of young shoots.
