Banana peels: homemade fertilizer to correct potassium deficiency
How does it work?
How is it prepared?
Banana peels can be used fresh, dried, or prepared as an infusion to release potassium more quickly.
Recipe:
• 2–3 banana peels
• Water (only if making an infusion)
• Drying tray, oven, or jar
Steps (3 methods):
Method 1: Drying and Grinding
1. Cut the peels into strips.
2. Dry them in the sun or in a low oven (90–100 °C) until crisp.
3. Grind into a fine powder.
4. Store in an airtight jar.
Method 2: Burying the Peels
1. Cut them into small pieces.
2. Bury them 5–10 cm deep around the plant.
3. Cover well to prevent flies.
Method 3: Banana Peel Infusion
1. Boil 1 liter of water.
2. Add 2 banana peels.
3. Boil for 10 minutes and let cool.
4. Strain and use the liquid as fertilizer.
How to apply it?
• Dry powder: 1–2 tablespoons per medium-sized pot, mixed with the potting mix.
• Buried husks: apply every 2–3 weeks.
• Infusion: water with the preparation once a week.
• Ideal for flowering plants, fruiting vegetables, fruit trees, and weak plants.
• Do not apply excessively to avoid fermentation or attracting insects.
