Why do fruits crack?

Cracked fruits are usually caused by sudden changes in water availability or by nutritional problems that reduce the elasticity of the fruit skin. Although they are not normally caused by pests or diseases, the cracks allow fungi and bacteria to enter, which can lead to fruit rot. Observing when the cracks appear and the growing conditions will help correctly identify the cause and prevent further damage.
