Cinnamon powder: how to use it as a homemade insecticide
How does it work?
Fungus gnats, also known as soil gnats or sciarids, are small flying insects that appear in humid environments and where there is decomposing organic matter. Their larvae live in the soil of pots and can damage the roots of plants. Cinnamon powder acts as a natural antifungal and helps stop the growth of fungi in the substrate, which interrupts the life cycle of these insects, since their larvae feed on said fungi.
How is it prepared?
To prepare a home remedy with cinnamon, it is not necessary to mix it with water or other ingredients. You only need pure cinnamon powder, preferably good quality. The recipe is very simple:
- Cinnamon powder: 1 tablespoon per pot (standard size about 15-20 cm in diameter).
How to apply it?
- Sprinkle the cinnamon powder over the entire surface of the earth.
- It is not necessary to water after applying it.
- Repeat once a week for 2-3 weeks.
- Use preventively once a month if there is frequent humidity.
- Avoid excess watering to prevent the appearance of mosquitoes.
