How does it work?
Horsetail infusion is a natural treatment widely used in organic farming to prevent and combat fungal diseases such as powdery mildew, mildew, rust, ash, monilia, mottle, septoria, phytophthora, alternariosis, cercospora, botrytis, gray rot or white mold. Its effectiveness is due to its high silica content, a substance that strengthens the cell walls of plants, making them more resistant to fungal attacks. In addition, it has fungicidal and astringent properties that inhibit the development of spores on treated surfaces.
How is it prepared?
To prepare a horsetail infusion, dried parts of the plant are used, easily available in herbalists or collected and dried manually.
Recipe:
- 100 grams of dried horsetail
- 1 liter of water
Preparation:
1. Place the horsetail in cold water and heat until boiling.
2. Once it starts to boil, lower the heat and let it simmer for 20 to 30 minutes.
3. Turn off the heat, let it cool and rest for at least 12 hours.
4. Strain and store in a clean container.
To use as a treatment:
- Dilute 1 part of infusion in 4 parts of water before applying.
How to apply it?
The horsetail infusion is applied by spraying on the leaves, stems and nearby soil, covering the plant well.
Application frequency:
- In prevention: apply every 7 to 10 days during the season of greatest humidity or risk of fungus.
- In the presence of disease: apply every 3 to 5 days until the progression of the fungus is controlled.
Tips:
- Apply preferably in the morning or evening.
- Avoid applying during the hours of greatest sunshine or if rain is expected.
- It can be alternated with other ecological treatments to prevent the fungi from adapting.
- Shake well before each use if it has been stored.
