DESCRIPTION
WHO CAUSES IT?
Phytophthora sp., commonly known as gummosis, is a pathogenic fungus that affects a wide variety of plants, including citrus. This fungal disease can cause significant damage to trees by invading the root system and trunk, causing symptoms of wilting, necrosis, and eventually death of the plant.
SYMPTOMS
In citrus trees, gummosis caused by Phytophthora sp. produces a series of characteristic symptoms. Among the most common signs are the appearance of dark, sunken Taches on the bark of the trunk and branches, exudation of resin or gum in these affected areas, and progressive wilting of the leaves and branches. Over time, the disease can cause parts or all of the tree to die.
