Fungicida

EPOXICONAZOLE

Fungicide

GROUP

FRAC 3

GROUP NAME

Triazoles (DMI)

MoA (Mode of Action)

Inhibition of ergosterol biosynthesis by blocking the CYP51 enzyme (C14-demethylase)

RESISTANCE LEVEL

Medium-high

CLASSIFICATION

Systémique

TYPE

Specific site

ACTIVITY

Preventive, early curative and partially eradicative

Description

A systemic fungicide belonging to the triazole group (DMI), used for the preventive and curative control of various fungal diseases in extensive crops, especially cereals. It exhibits high efficacy against rusts, septoria leaf spot, rhynchosporium leaf spot, helminthosporium leaf spot, and other leaf spots caused by phytopathogenic fungi. It acts by inhibiting ergosterol biosynthesis through the blocking of the C14-demethylase (CYP51) enzyme, essential for the formation of functional cell membranes in fungi. The disruption of sterol synthesis causes structural and physiological dysfunctions in the cell membrane, inhibiting mycelial growth and sporulation. It has preventive, early curative, and partially eradicative activity, as well as marked systemic action and persistence in the crop.

Application Conditions

It is applied as a foliar spray, either preventively or at the first sign of infection. Homogeneous coverage of the crop must be ensured to maximize absorption and treatment efficacy. Alternating or mixing with fungicides of different modes of action is recommended within resistance control programs and integrated disease management systems.

Compatibility in Treatment Programs

Compatible with multisite fungicides, strobilurins and SDHI within resistance management strategies

Cross-Resistance

There is partial or total cross-resistance with other FRAC 3 fungicides (DMI triazoles)

Maximum Number of Applications

Maximum 1-2 consecutive applications according to FRAC strategy and authorized label

Recommendations for Use

Alternation or mixing with multi-site fungicides or different FRAC groups is recommended to reduce selection pressure.

Compatibility with Beneficial Organisms

Generally yes, when used according to the recommendations and authorized doses.

Technical Notes

Epoxiconazole is notable for its high efficacy against foliar diseases in cereals and its persistence under high disease pressure. Its rapid absorption and systemic redistribution allow for effective protection of plant tissues. Due to its specific mode of action, repeated use may promote the selection of resistant strains, especially in pathogens with a history of resistance to DMI, therefore it should be integrated into FRAC strategies and integrated pest management programs.
