¿QUIÉN LO CAUSA?
Candidatus Liberibacter Asiaticus is a gram-negative bacteria associated with huanglongbing (HLB), also known as citrus greening or yellow dragon. This bacteria cannot be cultured in artificial media, which complicates its study. The bacteria is located in the phloem of plants, the tissue responsible for the distribution of nutrients. Its cycle begins when an insect vector, generally the Asian citrus psyllid (Diaphorina citri), feeds on the sap of an infected plant, acquiring the bacteria. Inside the insect, the bacteria multiplies and distributes to other parts of its body, including the salivary glands. When the psyllid feeds on another plant, the bacteria is transmitted to the phloem of the new host plant. Within the plant, the bacteria moves systemically, obstructing the flow of nutrients and causing characteristic HLB symptoms. Infection and spread within the plant are slow but progressive, causing significant long-term damage.

SÍNTOMAS
Huanglongbing (HLB), caused by Candidatus Liberibacter Asiaticus, is a devastating disease of lemon trees. This disease is characterized by symptoms that affect both the leaves and the fruits, and eventually the entire plant. HLB causes a series of manifestations that drastically reduce the productivity and quality of the lemon tree.
- Yellow mottled leaves with asymmetrical pattern.
- Thickening of the veins of the leaves.
- Generalized chlorosis.
- Premature fall of leaves.
- Small, deformed fruits with uneven ripening.
- Bitter and abnormal taste of the fruits.
- Regressive death of branches.
- General decline of the plant.
- Eventual death of the tree if it is not controlled.

Recomendaciones
- Regularly monitor lemon trees for the presence of psyllids and HLB symptoms.
- Implement biological control programs introducing natural enemies of the Asian psyllid.
- Use yellow sticky traps to detect and reduce the psyllid population.
- Apply specific insecticides to control psyllids, following technical recommendations.
- Immediately remove and destroy infected plants to prevent the spread of the bacteria.
- Maintain a strict quarantine when introducing new plants to the garden.
- Promote hygiene practices and disinfection of agricultural tools and machinery.
- Encourage the use of citrus varieties tolerant or resistant to HLB, if available.
- Provide adequate nutritional management to strengthen plants and improve their natural resistance.

RECOMMANDATIONS
- Check the back of the leaves frequently, especially in dry weather.
- Spray water on the leaves to increase humidity and prevent them from settling.
- Keep plants healthy with good watering and adequate light.
- If you see cobwebs or damage, clean the leaves with a damp cloth or pressurized water.
- Use potassium soap or neem oil every few days until they disappear.
