DESCRIPTION
WHO CAUSES IT?
Cottony mealybug is a common pathogen that affects a wide variety of plants, including geranium. This insect, with a white and cottony appearance, adheres to the aerial parts of the plant, feeding on its sap. It produces a waxy substance that covers its body and serves as protection. This mealybug can severely weaken the plant, causing yellowing, wilting and eventually death of leaves and shoots.
SYMPTOMS
Geranium is especially susceptible to cottony mealybug infection. Symptoms include the visible presence of mealybugs on leaves, stems and flowers, as well as general weakening of the plant. Leaves may turn yellow and drop prematurely, and sticky areas of honeydew may be seen on the surface of the plant.
