WHO CAUSES IT?
The black aphid, scientifically known as Aphis fabae, is a species of sucking insect that can become a significant pest on garden plants and agricultural crops, including geranium. These aphids are usually black or dark brown in color and have a smooth, oval body. They feed on plant sap and reproduce rapidly, forming dense colonies on young shoots and leaves. In addition to weakening the plant, the black aphid can transmit viruses and bacterial diseases through its saliva, which aggravates the damage.
SYMPTOMS
The disease caused by the black aphid in geranium manifests itself mainly in the deformation of the leaves and shoots, as well as the yellowing and wilting of the plant. Symptoms include the presence of aphid colonies on the underside of leaves, the accumulation of honeydew on the surface of the plant and the appearance of sooty mold fungi, which feed on the honeydew excreted by aphids.
