Cannabis

WHO CAUSES IT?
Thrips are small insects belonging to the order Thysanoptera, and some species can be important pests in cannabis crops. These insects feed on plant tissues, causing direct damage by piercing plant cells and sucking sap, which can weaken the plant and make it more susceptible to other diseases.

SYMPTOMS
Symptoms of thrips attack on cannabis may include the presence of small silver or tan Taches on the leaves, caused by the insects feeding. In addition, deformations of the leaves, curling of the edges, and in severe cases, defoliation and reduction in plant growth can be observed.

Recommendations
To prevent and control thrips infestation in cannabis crops, it is important to implement integrated pest management practices. This includes regularly inspecting plants for the early presence of thrips, manually removing insects when possible, introducing natural predators such as predatory mites and parasitoid wasps, and selectively using insecticides when necessary.

RECOMMENDATIONS
- Check the back of the leaves frequently, especially in dry weather.
- Spray water on the leaves to increase humidity and prevent them from settling.
- Keep plants healthy with good watering and adequate light.
- If you see cobwebs or damage, clean the leaves with a damp cloth or pressurized water.
- Use potassium soap or neem oil every few days until they disappear.
