DESCRIPTION
WHO CAUSES IT?
Eutypa lata is a phytopathogenic fungus that causes the disease known as gummosis in apricot. This fungus has a complex life cycle that involves the production of spores that are dispersed by wind and water. Spores can survive in dead plant tissues for long periods of time, contributing to the persistence of the disease in the orchard.
SYMPTOMS
Gummosis, caused by Eutypa lata, causes a series of general symptoms in apricot trees, including gum exudation from bark wounds, growth decline, branch dieback, and eventually tree death. The main symptoms include:
- Gum exudation in bark wounds.
- Decline in growth.
- Regressive death of branches.
- Death of the tree.

- Carry out sanitary pruning to eliminate infected branches and reduce the spread of the fungus.
- Apply wound sealants to pruned areas to prevent the entry of pathogens.
- Implement integrated pest management practices to reduce the presence of Eutypa lata in the orchard, such as the removal of infected plant material and crop rotation.
- Improve air circulation in the orchard through proper pruning and adequate spacing between trees to reduce humidity and avoid favorable conditions for the proliferation of the fungus.
