DESCRIPTION
WHO CAUSES IT?
The California red louse, scientifically known as Aonidiella aurantii, is a scale insect with a round, dark red body, covered by a waxy protective shell. This pest feeds on plant tissues, piercing the surface to extract sap and causing damage to the health of the plant.
SYMPTOMS
The California red louse can cause problems in citrus by feeding on the leaves, stems and fruits, resulting in discoloration and overall weakening of the plant. Affected citrus may show reduced growth and fruit production.
