DESCRIPTION
WHO CAUSES IT?
Botrytis cinerea is a filamentous fungus that causes the disease known as gray mold on a wide variety of plants, including strawberries and other fruits. It is an opportunistic pathogen that can infect plants at any stage of their growth cycle, but is especially problematic under conditions of high humidity and moderate temperatures. This fungus is capable of infecting both healthy and damaged tissues, spreading rapidly and causing significant damage to commercial crops and gardens.
SYMPTOMS
Botrytis cinerea infection manifests itself with the appearance of grayish mold on the leaves, stems, flowers and fruits. Symptoms include necrotic lesions on leaves and fruits, rotting of flowers, and a characteristic gray mold growth on affected parts. This can result in a decrease in crop quality and yield, as well as the spread of the disease through production.

To prevent and control the spread of Botrytis cinerea in strawberry and other fruit crops, it is essential to implement integrated pest and disease management practices. This includes removing infected crop debris, promoting air circulation around plants, drip irrigation instead of overhead irrigation, controlling weeds, and applying preventative fungicides in a timely manner.
