DESCRIPTION
WHO CAUSES IT?
Purple spot on strawberries is caused by the fungus Mycosphaerella fragaria. This pathogen is a microorganism that develops mainly in humid and warm environments. Mycosphaerella fragaria mainly affects the leaves of strawberries, but can also spread to the stems and fruits. It is known to produce characteristic purple Taches on the leaves of the plant, giving rise to the common name of the disease.
SYMPTOMS
The disease caused by Mycosphaerella fragaria in strawberries manifests itself with the appearance of purple Taches on the leaves. These Taches are usually small at first, but over time they can grow and merge, covering large areas of the leaf surface. Affected leaves may turn yellow, wilt, and eventually fall prematurely, weakening the plant and reducing its ability to produce fruit.
