DESCRIPTION
WHO CAUSES IT?
Potato virus A (PVA) and Potato virus X (PVX) are two viruses that affect potato crops, causing diseases that can reduce their productivity and quality. PVA and PVX are primarily transmitted by aphids, insect vectors that feed on plant sap and can transport viruses from one plant to another. Additionally, these viruses can persist in the soil and in infected tubers, contributing to the spread of the disease.
SYMPTOMS
PVA and PVX produce a variety of symptoms in potato plants, affecting their development and yield. Symptoms can vary depending on the viral strain and growing conditions, but typically include leaf Taches, deformation, yellowing, and reduced growth. Additionally, tubers may show lesions and discoloration, affecting their quality and commercial value.
• Chlorotic or yellowish Taches on the leaves.
• Deformation and curling of the leaves.
• Reduction in plant growth and vigor.
• Lesions and discoloration on the tubers.
