DESCRIPTION
WHO CAUSES IT?
Tetranychus urticae, commonly known as the red spider, is a mite that belongs to the family Tetranychidae. It is a pathogen that affects a wide variety of plants, including tomatoes. This mite has a short and prolific life cycle, with the ability to reproduce quickly under optimal conditions. During its development, it goes through the stages of egg, larva, two nymph stages and adult, with each phase lasting approximately 5 to 20 days depending on temperature and humidity.
SYMPTOMS
Spider mite, caused by Tetranychus urticae, is a common disease of tomato. General symptoms include yellow Taches on the leaves, discoloration, leaf curling, and eventually defoliation. The main symptoms are:
- Yellow Taches on the upper part of the leaves.
- Progressive discoloration of the leaves.
- Rolling of the leaves downwards.
- Presence of fine cobwebs on the underside of the leaves.
