DESCRIPTION

WHO CAUSES IT?

The leafhopper, also known as Taphrina deformans, is a fungus that mainly affects fruit trees, especially peach trees and nectarines. This pathogen causes a disease known as "peach dent", which mainly affects the leaves, although it can also affect the fruits in the early stages of their development. Leafhopper is an ascomycete fungus that infects the shoots and young leaves of fruit trees, causing the formation of reddish Taches on the surface of the leaves, followed by deformation and denting of the leaves.

SYMPTOMS

The disease caused by the leafhopper in ornamental and garden plants is manifested by the presence of reddish Taches on the surface of the leaves, which can appear in the early stages of spring. As the disease progresses, the affected leaves may become deformed and dented, which negatively affects both the aesthetic appearance of the plant and its ability to carry out photosynthesis and carry out its vital functions.

To prevent and control leafhopper in ornamental and garden plants, it is essential to carry out integrated pest management practices. This includes removing infected leaves and shoots to reduce the number of spores in the environment, as well as applying specific fungicides if necessary. Additionally, keeping the plant in optimal conditions for growth and vigor can help reduce its susceptibility to disease.
