DESCRIPTION
WHO CAUSES IT?
The channeled mealybug, scientifically known as Icerya purchasi, is a pest that affects citrus crops and other plants in various parts of the world. It is a sucking insect that feeds on the sap of plants, especially tender shoots and young leaves. The channeled mealybug is characterized by its elongated and flattened body, with characteristic grooves on the dorsal part.
SYMPTOMS
In citrus, the ribbed mealybug can cause a number of problems. The most common symptoms include the presence of white, waxy Taches on leaves, shoots and fruits, as well as the appearance of honeydew that can attract ants and promote fungal growth. Additionally, ribbed mealybug can weaken plants, affecting their growth and yield.
