DESCRIPTION
WHO CAUSES IT?
The ribbed mealybug, also known as Saissetia coffeae, is a scale insect that feeds on the sap of various plants, including citrus trees. This pest can cause significant damage to citrus crops by weakening the plants and reducing the quality of the fruit produced.
SYMPTOMS
In citrus, the presence of grooved mealybug can lead to a number of worrying symptoms. These include the formation of yellowish, sticky Taches on the leaves and branches of trees, caused by the excretion of honeydew by insects. Additionally, infested plants may show poor growth, yellowing leaves, and premature fruit drop.

To prevent and control channel mealybug infestation in citrus crops, it is recommended to implement a combination of cultural, mechanical and chemical measures. This includes regular pruning of infested branches, biological control through the introduction of natural enemies of the mealybug, such as certain species of ladybugs and parasitoid wasps, and the selective use of insecticides when necessary.
