Stippling Disease
Schizothyrium Pomi
Pathogen:
Fungus
Type:
Risk to the plant:
MILD

DESCRIPTION
WHO CAUSES IT?
The pathogen Schizothyrium pomi is a phytopathogenic fungus that affects apple trees, causing the disease known as flyspeck. This fungus forms small black Taches on the surface of the fruits and leaves. The fungus survives on fallen plant debris and can remain dormant during the winter months. During the growing season, it becomes active and disperses through the air, infecting new areas of the plant.
SYMPTOMS
Spotting disease in apple trees produces small, dark Taches on the surface of the fruits and, occasionally, on the leaves. These Taches do not seriously damage the quality of the fruits, but affect their appearance, which can result in reduced market value.
• Small black Taches on the surface of the fruits.
• Less common Taches on leaves.
• Poor appearance of the fruits.
