DESCRIPTION

WHO CAUSES IT?

Fig Mosaic Virus (FMV) is a pathogen that severely affects fig trees. This virus is transmitted mainly by vector mites, specifically Aceria ficus. Once the virus infects a plant, it spreads through the sap to all parts of the tree. The vector mites feed on the sap of the fig tree and in doing so, ingest the virus. Later, when the mites migrate to other plants, they inoculate the virus into new fig trees during their feeding. The virus can remain in the plant for life, affecting its vigor and productivity.

SYMPTOMS

The Fig Mosaic Virus produces a disease that causes various symptoms in the fig tree, affecting both the leaves and the fruits. The infection mainly manifests itself in the leaves, although it can also negatively impact the development and quality of the figs.

- Appearance of irregular chlorotic Taches on the leaves.
- Deformation and curling of the leaves.
- Reduction in the size of leaves and fruits.
- Decrease in the quantity and quality of the fruits.
- General weakening of the plant, making it more susceptible to other diseases and pests.
