WHO CAUSES IT?
Podosphaera leucotricha is a phytopathogenic fungus that causes the disease known as powdery mildew in apple trees and other fruit trees. The fungus develops on the surface of leaves, shoots and fruits, forming a visible mycelium and a white or grayish layer of sporulation. Podosphaera leucotricha can overwinter as mycelium in infected buds and produce spores when conditions are favorable.
SYMPTOMS
Powdery mildew in apple trees manifests itself with the appearance of a white or grayish growth on the surface of the leaves, shoots and fruits. The disease can cause leaf deformation and wrinkling, as well as a reduction in the quality and quantity of the crop.

Recommendations
• Use apple varieties resistant or tolerant to Podosphaera leucotricha.
• Practice proper pruning to improve air circulation and reduce humidity.
• Disinfect pruning tools and equipment to prevent the spread of the fungus.
• Apply specific fungicides following local recommendations.
• Avoid excess nitrogen fertilization, as it can favor the spread of the fungus.
• Carry out regular monitoring to detect and eliminate infected parts.
