DESCRIPTION
WHO CAUSES IT?
Aulacaspis tubercularis is a species of scale insect that mainly affects mangoes. This insect goes through several stages in its life cycle. The adult females, which are immobile, attach themselves to the leaves or branches of the host plant and secrete a protective waxy covering under which they lay their eggs. These eggs hatch into nymphs that also feed on the plant sap and eventually develop into adults. The mealybug can go unnoticed due to its small size and its ability to camouflage itself with the wax it produces.
SYMPTOMS
The disease it produces on mango is known as white mango scale or snow scale. General symptoms include:
• Presence of small white or cottony Taches on the leaves, branches and fruits of the mango.
• Yellowing and wilting of leaves.
• Reduction in the yield and quality of the fruits.
