WHO CAUSES IT?
The cottony mealybug, scientifically known as Planococcus citri, is a scale insect that feeds on the sap of various plants, including citrus trees. This pest is one of the most common and harmful to citrus crops worldwide, as it can severely weaken plants and reduce the quality and quantity of fruit.
SYMPTOMS
In citrus, the presence of the cottony mealybug can cause a number of worrying symptoms. These include discoloration and deformation of the leaves, the presence of a cottony, sticky substance on the affected parts of the plant, and the appearance of black Taches from sooty mold fungi that grow on the honeydew excreted by the mealybug.
