Iron deficiency

Products and treatments to correct iron deficiency in plants

How to identify and treat iron deficiency in plants

Iron deficiency is a common problem in many plants and mainly affects leaf color. When the plant cannot access the iron it needs, the leaves may lose their green color while the veins remain greener. Identifying it correctly is important.

How to identify iron deficiency in plants?

Iron deficiency in plants – yellow leaves
Yellow leaves caused by iron deficiency in a plant

Iron deficiency usually causes yellowing that first appears on young leaves. The veins may remain green while the rest of the leaf loses its color, creating a very easy-to-recognize contrast. If the deficiency continues, the leaves may become increasingly pale and the plant may grow more slowly.

The main symptoms are:

• Yellow or very light green young leaves.

• Leaf veins that remain green while the rest of the leaf turns yellow.

• Yellowing that usually begins on the youngest leaves.

• Leaves that become increasingly pale as the deficiency progresses.

• Slow growth or loss of vigor in the plant.

• Almost yellow leaves when the deficiency is severe.

• In severe cases, leaves that eventually dry out.

Do not confuse with nitrogen deficiency.

Yellowing can also occur when there is a lack of nitrogen, but the pattern is usually different. Iron deficiency normally affects young leaves first, while nitrogen deficiency usually begins in older leaves. In addition, with iron deficiency, the veins commonly remain green while the rest of the leaf turns yellow. With nitrogen deficiency, yellowing is usually more uniform and progressively affects the older leaves.

Treatments to correct iron deficiency in plants

Iron deficiency causes characteristic yellowing of the leaves, especially young leaves, while the veins remain green. When these symptoms appear, supplying iron directly helps correct the deficiency and allows the plant to quickly recover its color and vigor. A fast-absorbing soluble iron chelate is a specific solution for supplying the iron the plant needs and promoting rapid recovery. As a general supplement, a universal fertilizer also provides the nutrients needed to maintain balanced growth.

The main recommendations and treatments are:

• Fast-absorbing soluble iron chelate: is the specific solution for correcting iron deficiency and quickly restoring plants with yellow leaves and green veins. Its rapid absorption allows iron to be supplied in an available form and helps restore the green color and new growth.

• Universal fertilizer: provides a balanced combination of nutrients that helps restore plant vigor and promotes the formation of new leaves and shoots. It is especially useful as a supplement to maintain complete nutrition during recovery.

• Maintain adequate watering: proper irrigation management supports root activity and allows the plant to make good use of the nutrients supplied. Avoiding both excess water and prolonged lack of irrigation helps accelerate recovery.
