WHO CAUSES IT?
Aphids are small, soft-bodied insects that belong to the Aphididae family. They reproduce rapidly through parthenogenesis, a process in which females give birth to live young without the need for mating. During warm seasons, females can produce multiple generations in a single summer. In the fall, some aphids produce eggs that can survive the low winter temperatures, ensuring the continuity of the species. These insects feed on plant sap, inserting their mouth stylets into the tissues and extracting nutrients. Aphids often excrete a sugary substance called honeydew, which can attract other insects such as ants and encourage the growth of sooty fungi.

SYMPTOMS
Aphid infestation on plants causes the disease known as aphids, which can seriously affect the health and development of plants.
- Appearance of small yellow Taches or discoloration on the leaves.
- Curling and deformation of the leaves.
- Stunted plant growth due to sap extraction.
- Presence of honeydew on plant surfaces, which can induce the appearance of black mold.
- Transmission of viruses between plants.
- Reduction in the general vitality of the plant.
- Loss of vigor and wilting in severe cases.
- Increase in the presence of ants attracted by the honeydew excreted by aphids.

Recommendations
- Regularly monitor plants to detect the presence of aphids early and act quickly.
- Promote biodiversity in the garden or crop to attract natural enemies of aphids, such as ladybugs and lacewings.
- Use yellow sticky traps to control aphid populations.
- Apply insecticidal soaps or horticultural oils that suffocate aphids.
- Keep plants well watered and fertilized so that they are less susceptible to infestations.
- Implement crop rotations and associations with aphid-repellent plants, such as garlic and chives.
- Use protective covers on sensitive crops to prevent access by aphids.
- In severe cases, apply specific insecticides following the manufacturer's recommendations and local regulations.

RECOMMENDATIONS
- Check the back of the leaves frequently, especially in dry weather.
- Spray water on the leaves to increase humidity and prevent them from settling.
- Keep plants healthy with good watering and adequate light.
- If you see cobwebs or damage, clean the leaves with a damp cloth or pressurized water.
- Use potassium soap or neem oil every few days until they disappear.
