Cylindrocarpon Sp.
Pathogen:

Micosis/Hongos
WHO CAUSES IT?
*Cylindrocarpon sp.* is a phytopathogenic fungus that mainly affects the roots and vascular tissues of the vine, causing their progressive degradation. This pathogen is found in the soil and can survive for long periods in the form of spores, allowing it to infect new plants when environmental conditions are favorable. Infection usually begins through young roots, which are vulnerable to penetration by the fungus. Once inside, the fungus spreads through the vascular system, blocking the flow of water and nutrients to the rest of the plant. *Cylindrocarpon sp.* produces conidia, asexual spores, which spread mainly through water and soil, infecting other plants in its proximity. In addition, it can remain dormant in the remains of infected plants and in contaminated soil, making its complete eradication difficult. The pathogen can also enter a resting state when conditions are not favorable, reactivating when the environment is again conducive to its growth.
SYMPTOMS
Blackleg caused by *Cylindrocarpon sp.* is a disease that mainly affects young vines, weakening their development and significantly reducing their ability to grow healthily. Infected plants show slow, stunted growth, and their ability to absorb water and nutrients is compromised, leading to a progressive decline in vigor. Young plants can die in severe cases, while more mature plants show symptoms of chronic weakness that affect grape production.
- Reduction in plant growth.
- Chlorosis in young leaves.
- Roots discolored and with visible necrosis.
- Delay in sprouting.
- Death of young plants.
- General loss of vigor and decrease in grape production.
