Graphiola Phoenicis
Pathogen:

Micosis/Hongos
WHO CAUSES IT?
Graphiola phoenicis is a pathogenic fungus that mainly affects palm trees. It is characterized by the formation of fruiting structures called sori, which appear on the palm leaves as small black or brown pustules. This fungus produces spores that are dispersed through wind and water. During warm, humid conditions, spores germinate and penetrate the tissues of young leaves, where the fungus develops intercellularly. As it grows, it forms hyphae and develops new sori, releasing more spores that can infect other leaves and plants. The process of infection and development of fruiting structures can be repeated several times during the growing season, facilitating the spread of the fungus in an affected area.
SYMPTOMS
False rust or leaf smut caused by Graphiola phoenicis in palm trees is a disease that mainly affects the leaves, reducing their photosynthetic capacity and, in severe cases, significantly weakening the plant. Chronic infections can lead to widespread weakness and increased susceptibility to other diseases and environmental stresses.
- Appearance of small black or brown pustules on both surfaces of the leaves.
- Deformation and discoloration of the affected leaves.
- Chlorotic Taches around the pustules.
- Premature fall of leaves.
- Reduction in the vigor and growth of the palm tree.
- Lower production of flowers and fruits.
- Increased susceptibility to other pathogens.
